Yard Heavy Machinery Driver

Location

On-site yard operations (waste management facility)

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00
(Overtime or weekend work may be required depending on operational needs)

Job Purpose

To safely and efficiently operate heavy machinery within the yard to support waste handling, sorting, loading, and movement operations, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate yard-based heavy machinery such as loading shovels, excavators, forklifts, telehandlers, or similar equipment
• Load, unload, move, and stockpile waste materials as directed
• Support waste sorting, processing, and transfer operations within the yard
• Carry out daily pre-start checks and basic maintenance of machinery
• Report defects, breakdowns, or safety concerns promptly
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized working area
• Follow all site rules, traffic management plans, and health & safety procedures
• Work closely with yard supervisors and other operatives to meet operational targets
• Comply with environmental regulations and waste handling procedures

Health & Safety

• Adhere strictly to health and safety policies and procedures
• Use appropriate PPE at all times
• Operate machinery in a safe and responsible manner
• Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience operating heavy machinery in a yard, industrial, or waste environment
• Relevant machinery licenses or certifications (e.g. loading shovel, excavator, forklift)
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious

Desirable:

• Experience within the waste or recycling industry
• Basic mechanical knowledge for routine checks and minor issues
• Familiarity with environmental compliance standards
